Guinness World Record for Longest Board Game Marathon Set to Fall this Weekend

Two-year old record in jeopardy as group from Langley B.C. attempts to play board game for 50 straight hours

LANGLEY, BC, Jan. 14 - The longest board game marathon Guinness world record of 42 hours and 48 minutes is set to fall this weekend when six players begin their quest for the title on Friday January 16th, 2009 at 9am PST.

Playing the Settlers of Catan: Cities and Knights game, the six hope to break the record early Sunday morning and then continue until they've played at least 50 uninterrupted hours.

"It takes quite a bit of planning to do something like this," said Mark Hing, one of the six players vying for the record. "The Guinness regulations are quite stringent and require certified medical professionals onsite during the entire attempt."

The group is also using the event to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society and have set up a Web Site where people can donate securely with just a few mouse clicks.

The other group members are Martin Phillips-Hing, David Ediger, Dave Northey, George Sawatsky, and Sam Dyck.

"We know it won't be a walk in the park, 50 hours and all, but we're quite certain we can do it and hope people will support us by giving a few dollars to the Cancer Society," Hing said.
